Homeowners that have a septic system often have thoughts about their septic system during the winter. However, if you had a pump out done in the fall, you should be good to go all winter. Be aware of how much water is flushed into the tank during the winter but if you took the appropriate steps to winterize your system, you can have a pump out done if necessary. The rule of thumb is to have the tank pumped out when it reaches three-quarters capacity. You don’t want to have the contents freeze because that could cause the tank to crack. If the septic tank won’t be used during the winter, like at a cottage, make sure you have had a pump out done late fall. If you have concerns, call the professionals at Dan Parr regarding your septic system.
